Same Sex Attraction and Homosexuality: What’s the Difference?

Same sex attraction is just that, attraction to someone of the same sex.

Homosexuality is acting out sexually and physically with another person of the same sex. These are two very different things.

The media and those promoting homosexuality love to blur these definitions. We are told that if you are attracted to someone of the same sex that means you are automatically a homosexual or lesbian. And if you do not act out you are in denial. This is not true!

It is normal for us to be attracted to other people, no matter what sex they are. An individual might be very good looking, exceptionally funny or intelligent. Those qualities attract us. That is how we make friends. Friendship may grow, even to the point of love. There is nothing wrong with that. The Bible has many examples of men and women who deeply love others of the same sex (ex., David and Jonathan, Ruth and Naomi).

From a Biblical standpoint, it is only when two people of the same sex engage in sexual activity, that it becomes a sin. That is when the line is crossed from same sex attraction to homosexuality and sin.

Yes, when strong feelings arise between people of the same sex it can be confusing and disconcerting. But like many things in life, they may be overcome and put into proper perspective if taken to our Lord for healing.
