Think Jesus

I’m sure you’ve heard many times that we are to think positive thoughts and indeed we do need to think positive instead of thinking negative. However, just thinking positive thoughts will never change us or our circumstances. We don’t have the power to change anything. It takes the power of our risen Saviour living in us to change us and our circumstances. Instead of thinking positive we should “Think Jesus.” He is the only one who can change a life and melt a hardened heart into a soft heart.

Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:4-8 King James Version

For years, I tried to change my life and my circumstances by thinking positive. It didn’t work and it will never work. The day that I cried out to Jesus and asked Him to take control of my thoughts, circumstances and life was the day that I felt peace for the first time in my life. It felt like I had escaped a hot fire and plunged into a soothing cool river. It is impossible for me to put into words the relief I felt because I knew that Jesus would work everything out for good in my life. What a faithful and loving Saviour we serve!

One of the most contributing factors to negative thinking is all of the violence, sexual scenes and profanity that bombard our homes daily through the television set. I read an article this morning by a doctor and he said, “The majority of my patients are not only addicted to drugs and alcohol; they are also addicted to the television set. One of my patients told me ‘The reason why I tried to commit suicide is because I saw this real cool dude do it on this movie that I saw.'”

The doctor went on to say that he himself had been addicted to country music for years and that he had become depressed because of listening to all the songs about divorce. He said “My parents got divorced and every time I heard a song about divorce, I would get very upset and depressed.”

If we were to think about Jesus instead of thinking about all the negative things in our lives, I believe that we would live peaceful lives. Yes, we do have negative situations and heartbreaking circumstances in our lives, but there is nothing that we endure and experience that Jesus can’t solve. Put your trust in Him because He will never fail you!
