Revelation: Don’t be Aftraid

Many people shy away from the Book of Revelation thinking it is too frightening or not applicable to the daily life of a Christian; certainly not to someone in recovery. No so! Revelation has many themes running through it. In this Book great evil is given full reign over the earth. Horrible and terrifying images are presented. There seems to be no way to overcome this terrible evil.

But if you read to the end of this book we learn that God is sovereign. He is greater than any power in the universe. Satan and his minions are defeated. In the end, a new heaven and a new earth are created where we, as believers, live in peace and security for eternity.

For many of us, life before recovery is hell on earth. Satan has control of our lives, there is no way out. We are caught in an escalating downward spiral. Fear and hopelessness are our constant companions. Mentally and spiritually we are the walking dead. Many of us think the only solution is death itself.

But something happens. We learn that God loves us. He not only loves us, He cares *intensely* for each one of us as individuals. You may ask, “If God loves me so much, why has He not delivered me from my addiction/dysfunction?”

Everyone in recovery has asked this same question at one time or another. Some of us have to go through the fires longer than others. I know in looking back over my own life, that there was a purpose to every trial I had to go through. God was with me every step of the way, even though I did not know it or feel it at the time.

Yes, God loves you. He loves you so much that He gave His only Son for YOU. God is all powerful. He *will* win over Satan in the world and in your own life. You will have a Revelation of your own if you have not had it already.

Jesus said in John 3:16-17
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through Him.”
