Bible Verses for Those with EDNOS (Eating Disorders Not Otherwise Specified)

If you are in recovery from EDNOS (Eating Disorders Not Otherwise Specified), there are Bible verses that can help you. You don’t have to live a life controlled by this disorder. Let God speak to you through His Word and help you move forward in your recovery.

One of the more common underlying issues among those with eating disorders is the issue of control. If you find yourself reaching to EDNOS behaviors in an effort to gain some control in your life, consider what an illusion that really is. If you feel absolutely driven to behaviors, whether it be over-exercising, restricting your food intake or purging in some fashion, what are you actually controlling? If these behaviors seem impossible to resist, that’s understandable because this is all part of having an eating disorder after all. But if you feel you must engage in these behaviors, that really isn’t control, is it?

It is scary, though, isn’t it, to let go of control. To counteract the fear associated with letting go of control, remember Psalm 34:4, I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. God understands your fears, so you might as well take them to Him in prayer. He is your safe place, so you can go to Him with anything. You might take comfort in His presence if you meditate on Psalm 32:7, You are my hiding place, you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.

God loves you and always has your best interest in mind. Therefore, you can trust Him with your struggles, your fears, your doubts and anything at all in your recovery. He will be there for you just like it says in Psalm 9:9-10, The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you. You can always be confident that He loves you and wants to help you. You can even trust Him to help you let go of control.

Take comfort in God’s love and care for you. Let Him calm your fears and help you let go of control. Meditate on verses that speak of His love for you, and trust Him with your recovery. When you need help resisting behaviors, bring your struggles to Him. You are safe in His hands.
