I recently lost a family member. How can I get over my grief?
One of the hardest crosses to bear in this life is losing a loved one. “If only we could have one more day…” That is a common theme in the life of a surviving spouse or family member. It becomes even more difficult to bear when there is some type of guilt that lingers. “I wish I had just…”
I am sorry for your loss and so is Jesus. He longs to comfort you in His arms. He is able! “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you” (Psalm 55:22).You need to recognize that your feelings are real and normal. There is no human relationship that does not have guilt and regret—you are not the only one. These types of feelings are ways the devil puts a hold on your life. If he can get you thinking about your loss and feeling grief or guilt, then you will be unable to feel the fullness of the blessings of God. This is exactly where Satan wants you!
So, lean on the Lord. Turn your grief and loneliness over to Him each day. That may seem too easy to say and way too difficult to do. But, it isn’t. Jesus bore the burden of your sin all of the way to the cross. Do you not think that He can handle your grief, as well?
