Amazed by Common Grace

Common Grace. It is a term used in theology to describe the grace God gives to every living person on planet earth. It is called "common," not because it is not worth that much, but because everyone alive gets it.

Grace by definition can never be demanded. God gives grace, not because He has to, but because He decides to. The scripture says that God "makes His sun rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust" (Matthew 5:45).

A Pastor's Letter to His Daughter

This is an excerpt from a letter from Legh Richmond (1772-1827) to one of his daughters. We all can be instructed by these words.

My dear daughter,
May my dear child be preserved from the defilements of a vain, dangerous, and destroying world. You know not, and I wish you never may know--its snares and corruptions!

I send you the following applications of my sermon on Ephesians 5:15-16, "Be very careful, then, how you live--not as unwise but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil."

On circumspection of walk, redemption of time, and general sincerity of character:

1. Adhere most scrupulously to Scriptural truth; and labor to preserve the strictest integrity, simplicity, and sincerity.

A Love Story

One day, I woke early in the morning to watch the sunrise.
Ah! The beauty of God's creation is beyond description!
As I watched, I praised God for His beautiful work.
As I sat there, I felt the Lord's presence with me.

    He asked me,
    "Do you love me?"
    I answered,
"Of course, God! You are my Lord and Saviour!"

    Then He asked,
"If you were physically handicapped, would you still love me?"

I was perplexed. I looked down upon my arms, legs and the rest
of my body and wondered how many things I wouldn't be able to do,
the things that I took for granted.

And I answered, "It would be tough Lord, but I would still love You."

The Lord is My Sponsor

The Lord is my sponsor, I shall not want.
He maketh me go to many meetings.
He leadeth me to sit back, relax and listen with an open mind.
He restoreth my soul, my sanity and health.

Footprints

One night a man had a dream, and in his dream he reviewed the footsteps he had taken in his life. He looked and noticed that all over the mountains and difficult places that he had traveled, there was one set of footprints... but over the plains and down the hills, there were two sets of footprints, as if someone had walked by his side.

He turned to Christ and said, "There is something I don't understand. Why is it that down the hills and over the smooth and easy places you have walked by my side; but, here over the tough and difficult places, I have walked alone; for I see in those areas there is just one set of footprints."
