Peace/Serenity

Serenity is on the Horizon

The following is dedicated to all of you who have worried in the past, to all of you who are presently worrying, and to those of you who will possibly be worrying in the future.

Everyone worries about something on a daily basis. No matter how small the problem may appear, constant worry can drain our lives of joy day after day. And there is not one of us who doesn’t desire to replace it with peace of mind. The question is, “How do we find serenity and integrate it into our lives?”

Peace in Times of Trouble

And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I, be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come.

Peace in His Arms

As soon as I get into bed at night, I literally feel the arms of Jesus go around me and hold me close to His loving heart. When His arms of unconditional love go around me, I feel a peace, a joy, a happiness and a security that the world can't give and the world can't take away. He holds me all night long and when I get up in the morning, He is my constant companion. He never leaves me, not even for a minute and when I go to the store, He goes with me. There is no one like Jesus! No one loves us like Jesus loves us! He is a friend beyond compare and I love Him with all of my heart. My heart's desire and the only reason I am living is to make Him happy.

Peace of Mind

You now know what it means to be at peace with yourself and free from drugs and alcohol. With addiction out of the way you will be closer to God. You know what it means to be a better Christian. You know the price that has to be paid to acquire the illusive thing called peace. I know men who would do anything if they could find peace in the form of sobriety and cleanliness. Every time they get close to finding peace that you have found in recovery, Satan steers them away. He lies to them, bluffs them, and blinds them. But you have found it, and I hope it is yours forever.

What's Holding You Back? A Process of Re-Connecting With God

HOLDING ON TO THE PAST
It's a very interesting thing about this holding mentality. Holding information within a computer is quite acceptable. But within the human computer, known as the brain, it can chain one to the past.

There are important things for you to remember from the past? not your past so much as the past explained in the Bible. The important thing is that you not rely on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5.

Where Do Your Treasures Lie?

What is God's will for our lives? God's purpose for our lives should always take a precedent over our own desires, and that includes all aspects of our marriage, work, career, family, and play. If we are not sure if we are doing the will of God, then we need to carefully consider our actions and pray about it. I know it is difficult to make God first in our lives, but He has shown us how to give Him first place in our hearts.

So do not worry, saying, "What shall we eat?" Or "What shall we drink?" or "What shall we wear?" For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Matthew 6:31 NIV)

How can I find peace and hope in the midst of desperate circumstances?

How does one find peace and hope in the midst of desperate circumstances?

John 14:27: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."

Ephesians 2:14: For he himself is our peace."

Philippians 4:7: And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."

The Serenity Prayer

It is not certain how old the Serenity Prayer is or who really wrote it. It may date as far back as Boethius (500 A.D.) who was a philosopher. Before he was martyred by the Christians, he was in prison for a long time during which he wrote "Consolation of Philosophy."

Reinhold Niebuhr is often credited with writing the Serenity Prayer but he credited Friedrich Oetinger who was an 18th century theologian.
