Letting Go of the Scale in Eating Disorder RecoveryPremium Content

What does the number on the scale say about you? When you really think about it, it's only a number and doesn't hold much meaning. It probably doesn't feel that way. Weighing yourself may be a normal part of your day. In the end, though, that number does not and will not define you. No matter if that number goes up or down, you will still be the same you.

"Learn from Me"--for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." Matthew 11:29

The God of All Comfort: Grief Share

2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Praise be to... the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.

When a neighbor lost her husband two years ago, many comforted her.

Those who had lost a loved one were able to comfort her with the comfort they had received from God.

Grief Share is a support group for those who have lost a loved one.

The facilitators and small group leaders have all experienced at least one significant loss.

They first went to Grief Share for the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort to comfort them.

The Blessing of Not Getting

There is one class of mercies and blessings, of which we are not sufficiently ready to take note. These are the things that God keeps from us. We recount, with more or less gratitude, the good gifts that we receive from him; but there are many blessings that consist in our not receiving.

In one of Miss Havergal's bright flashes of spiritual truth, she quotes these words of Moses to the Israelites: "As for you, the Lord your God has not allowed you so to do." Then she adds, "What a stepping-stone! We give thanks, often with a tearful, doubtful voice, for our positive spiritual mercies; but what an almost infinite field there is for negative mercies! We cannot even imagine all that God has allowed us not to do, not to be."

The Issue of Control in Eating Disorder RecoveryPremium Content

The desire for control of one's job, emotions, schedule, health or even family members sometimes surfaces in a desire to control food intake or even in other food related behaviors. Control is a common underlying struggle for those who suffer with eating disorders.

When We See No End to Our Great Trials, Suffering and Affliction

Galatians 6:17 NKJV
From now on, let no one make trouble for me; for I carry the marks of Jesus branded on my body."

What if I were to tell you that becoming a Christian would make your life harder, not easier? What if I were to explain that being a disciple of the Lord’s would bring pain possibly with no hope of relief until heaven? Would you still embrace the gospel? Would you be as excited about serving the Lord as you might be with promises of needs fulfilled and desires met?
