New Jersey sues painkiller company, calls its conduct 'evil'

New Jersey has joined with other states in suing an Arizona drug company behind a powerful opioid-fentanyl painkiller spray. The suit alleges that Insys directed its sales force to have doctors prescribe Subsys for any type of chronic pain even though it was only approved for cancer patients who couldn't benefit from other opioids.

East Texas county sues drug companies, alleges role in opioid crisis

An East Texas county is suing a slew of prescription painkiller manufacturers and distributers in federal court, accusing them of fueling an opioid addiction epidemic that has gripped communities across the nation - in part by allegedly inflating the drugs' benefits in treating chronic pain and downplaying the addiction risks. In filing the lawsuit, Upshur County became the first of what could be more Texas governments to seek financial damages from companies alleged to have played a role in the opioid crisis.

Washington state AG Bob Ferguson, Seattle sue OxyContin maker over opioid deaths

Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson on Thursday filed a lawsuit against pharmaceutical giant Purdue Pharma, accusing the company of fueling the state's ongoing opioid epidemic. The state's suit accuses Purdue, maker of OxyContin, of using deceptive marketing to convince both patients and doctors that the drug is effective for treating chronic pain and carries low risk of addiction.
