Redeemed: Taking Refuge in the Lord

Psalm 34:22: “The LORD redeems his servants; no one will be condemned who takes refuge in him.”

We like to hear that the Lord redeems his servants. We like to hear about no condemnation, but what does that mean?

Jesus Christ is our Redeemer and redeems the souls of his servants. By his death on the cross, he paid the price for our sins. He redeemed us “from all wickedness” (Titus 2:14) and “from the empty way of life” (1 Peter 1:18).

We don’t have to try and earn our way to heaven. We don’t have to hide from him in guilt and shame when we do something wrong. We don’t have to pretend to be perfect.

We won’t be condemned because we take refuge in him. When my son was a toddler and got scared, he would run to me for protection. He knew me, and he was my son.

When we face trouble, we can run to the Lord in hope and take refuge in him. He knows us, and we are his.

Dear God, thank you for redeeming my soul. Amen.

Application: Have you taken refuge in the Lord? If so, when?
