Thirsty for Love

Jesus answered and said unto her, “Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” John 4:13-14 King James Version

There are times in our lives when our hearts grow dry and we get discouraged because of criticism, sarcasm, and cruel things that are done to us. I know that Jesus loves me and that He loves me unconditionally but I’m human and I get discouraged at times just like you do. I have lost count of the emails that I have received in the last three and a half years from people who were discouraged and needed to be reassured that Jesus loves them. Many of the emails were from pastors and missionaries.

When we invite Jesus into our hearts, He gives us a well of water that springs up into everlasting life. However, satan still tells us vicious lies and hurls his poisonous fiery darts of criticism at us. Sometimes all that criticism is overwhelming and we feel like we are going to go under for the last time. The good news is that when we start to go under for the last time, our precious Saviour lifts us up and sets us on His lap of compassion and understanding. He tenderly folds us in His loving arms close to His heart as He whispers softly in our ears “I love you and I will never leave you.” What a Saviour! What a friend, this Jesus of Nazareth!

If you are thirsty for the reassurance of the unconditional love of Jesus for you, remember the old rugged cross. He died for you while you were still in your sins and that proves that He loves you unconditionally. There is absolutely nothing that you have done or ever could do that would make Him stop loving you. He does not turn His love off and on like a water faucet like we do at times. Allow Jesus to fill your heart to overflowing with His unconditional love and compassion. Only Jesus can quench the thirst in your heart. Thank God for the old rugged cross! Jesus died for us on the cross so that we can have our sins forgiven when His atoning blood is applied to our hearts. If our sins are under the blood of Jesus, we have a mansion reserved in Heaven for us and we will live with Jesus for all eternity! Again, thank God for the old rugged cross!
