God’s Smoke Alarm

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.” 1 Peter 5: 8-9 King James Version

Every night before I go to bed if I remember to do it, I check my smoke alarms to be sure they are working properly. God has given us a smoke alarm in our Scripture verse today and if we forget to do this we are in serious trouble. He is warning us about satan who hurls his fiery darts of criticism and sarcasm at us. Everything can be going wonderful in our lives; there are no crises or difficult situations and then all of a sudden, wham! That sneaky devil attacks us with so many fiery darts that we feel like we are about to go under for the last time. We must stay alert at all times.

The fires of satan are real and they are devastating because he attacks us with discouragement, depression, heartaches, abuse, criticism, sarcasm and judgment. Only Jesus can extinguish the fires of discouragement in our hearts with His soothing ointment of understanding and unconditional love. Our precious Saviour tenderly cradles us in His arms and holds us close to His loving heart as He whispers softly in our ears “I love you.” He replaces the hurt and turmoil in our hearts with His peace and comfort.

Let’s be on the alert constantly for the sneaky attacks of the devil so we won’t give him an opportunity to discourage us from serving Jesus. I believe that if we would stay on the alert at all times for the poisonous fiery darts of satan that we would live happier and more peaceful lives. Are you listening for God’s smoke alarm in your life?
