It is Never Too Late

"If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us." 1 John 1:8-10 King James Version

I am reading an inspirational story about a man who, because of driving while he was drunk, was involved in a car accident. The tragedy is that his little girl who was in the car with him was killed. He was released from prison and he immediately went to see his wife who is very bitter and angry at him because of their daughter’s death to tell her that he is sorry for ruining their lives and to ask her to forgive him.

She feels that it is all his fault that their daughter died. He told her how very sorry he is because of what he did and tells her that he knows that apologies and regrets will not bring their daughter back but he needs her to forgive him. She replied "It is too late".

I think that every parent can understand the heartache, the grief and sorrow and the emptiness that this mother has felt in her heart since her daughter was killed in the car crash and why she finds it so difficult to forgive him. However, she needs to forgive her husband.

God has never said to us "It is too late" when we ask Him to forgive us for hurting someone and killing them emotionally with our harsh, sarcastic, judgmental and critical words. There is more than one way to kill someone.

When we say harsh and criticizing words to someone, we might as well pull the trigger on the gun or plunge a knife into the person’s heart because it has the same effect. No, dear people, it is never too late to ask God to forgive us when we sin and fail Him and all of us sin and fail Him. The person who says that he or she never sins is calling God a liar.

It is never too late to go to our Heavenly Father with a broken heart and a contrite spirit and tell Him that we have sinned. We also don’t have to be afraid that He will be so angry at us that He will reject us and not forgive us. If He can forgive us for killing His only beloved Son, He can forgive us for anything.

If you are having difficulty forgiving someone, remember Jesus forgave you while hanging on that cross of torture. If He can forgive you, how much more should you forgive the ones who hurt you. Again, it is never too late to ask God to forgive you for hurting Him. The most important thing is that it is never too late to accept Jesus as your personal Saviour. Have you said yes to Jesus and invited Him into your heart? If not, please do it now, before it is too late!
