Our Light

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” John 8:12 King James Version

There are times in our lives when it feels like we are in total darkness. As a pastor friend of mine said once “We were in a cave and it was so dark that we literally couldn’t see our hands in front of our faces.” Sometimes we feel that we are in a long dark tunnel and we can’t see any light, not even a flicker.

Our enemy, satan, is very happy when he sees us discouraged and defeated. However, no matter how many fiery arrows of criticism, ridicule and sarcasm that satan attacks us with through people, if we have the Lord Jesus Christ in our hearts we always have a light. It is the light of hope and the light of victory.

Jesus is the light of our hearts. When we get discouraged and feel like giving up because we are being ridiculed for serving Him, He understands how we feel. Our precious Saviour when He was here on earth serving His Father was also ridiculed and rejected. He weeps with us and He rejoices with us.

If you can’t see any light in your dark tunnel of loneliness, heartaches, burdens and problems, ask Jesus to shine His light in your heart once again. Remember, it does not matter what satan and the world say to us or do to us to discourage us, we have the light of the world in our hearts and it can never be extinguished!

Something Better

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

“Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.” John 1: 47-49
King James Version

A lady who had surrendered her life to full time service for Jesus and had left her family and friends and her job to serve Him was telling her friend about the job she had before she left it to serve Jesus. She described her job in glowing details and told her friend that she was so happy with her job and felt that she was contributing to the world. Her friend said “How could you leave your job and the money you were making?” She replied “I found something better.”

Oh dear people, I have also found something better, I found my precious and loving Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. Rather, He found me as I was unable to find anybody or do anything. I wasn’t even living; I merely existed in this world of violence and hatred. I had been abused, raped, beaten, tied up, ridiculed and criticized. I had been locked in a small room and left alone for a long time.

I had been told that I was no good and that I didn’t have a right to live for so long that I believed those lies and tried to kill myself four times. I didn’t trust anybody and I certainly didn’t like anyone. I was in this crippling state of hatred, bitterness, resentment, unforgiveness, and depression for over forty years until Jesus rescued me. Oh what a Saviour, this Jesus of Nazareth! There is no one like Jesus! No one loves us like our Heavenly Father and Jesus loves us.

Jesus told Nathanael that He saw him when he was under the fig tree. One day, Jesus saw me lying underneath that bed in the mental hospital, terrified of everyone and everything. He lifted me up out of the garbage of my life and sat me on His lap of compassion and unconditional love. He gently and tenderly put His arms of understanding and protection around me and held me close to His heart. He has never let me go since that day and He never will let me go.

There are people who have been searching for years to find peace, joy and happiness. They have searched for them in alcohol, in drugs, in sex and all other things with which the world entices us. If you have been searching for peace, joy and happiness, you will never find them in the world. They are only found through our precious Saviour. There is only one way to have these things and that is to ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins and come into your heart to be your personal Saviour. He is the only one who can give you peace, a lasting peace, a peace that the world can’t give and the world can’t take away.

Don’t waste any more time searching for happiness. Cry out to Jesus and He will give you a peace, a joy and a happiness that you have never known. He will put His arms of compassion around you and wipe your tears away with His tender kisses. He is waiting for you with outstretched arms. Run into His arms and you will never be lonely again because He will never leave you.

God’s Garage: Fixing our Broken Hearts and Lives

Monday, November 26th, 2007

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11: 28-30 KJV

I received an email yesterday from a dear friend who said that she had to take her car to the garage to be fixed because the engine light came on and that wasn’t good. As I was praying for her safety, I was reminded of this verse. When we are carrying heavy burdens and our hearts are shattered and broken, Jesus has told us to come unto Him and He will give us rest. What a precious loving Saviour! What a privilege to be loved by the Saviour of the world!

Just as it is not safe for my friend to drive her car until it is fixed, so it is not safe for us to try and serve Jesus in our own strength. Jesus is the engine of our hearts. If we have allowed our hearts to become filled with things that hurt Him, we will turn people away from Him, rather than turning them to Him. It is of great importance that our actions back up our words and if our hearts have become filled with bitterness, resentment or criticism of others, then people are going to sense that we are not sincere.

We can be very happy and all is going well in our lives. Then all of a sudden without any warning at all satan hurls another one of his fiery poisonous barbs of criticism, sarcasm and ridicule at us and once again we are wounded and the wounds are raw and bleeding. It’s bad enough when people that we don’t know well say harsh things to us, but sometimes satan attacks us through our own families and that really hurts.

It is then that we need to run as fast as we can to the master mechanic and His name is Jesus. He is the only one who has the right tools to remove the hurt, the agony and the tears from our hearts. He is waiting with outstretched arms and a compassionate heart full of understanding and unconditional love for us. He too was attacked when He was here on earth with the poisonous barbs of criticism, ridicule and sarcasm so He really does understand how we feel.

If today you are hurting and feeling all alone and your heart is heavy with the poisonous barbs of satan, give them to Jesus. He will be faithful to encourage you and He will remove them and replace them with His peace, the peace that passes all understanding. Your friends can’t take the loneliness, the pain and the agony from your heart as much as they want to do so. Only Jesus can wipe the tears from your heart and take the hurt away. Thank You, Jesus, for fixing our broken hearts and our broken lives.
