I Just Can't Stop! How to Overcome Addiction
If you just can't stop your addiction or behavior this booklet will help.
Scriptures for Resisting Behaviors
Could you use some help in warding off a binge, resisting restricting your food intake or stopping yourself from over-exercising? Does resisting eating disorder behaviors seem impossible sometimes? The good news is that divine help is available. God wants you to be free of your eating disorder, so you can go to His Word for help in resisting behaviors.
If you are hesitant to ask God for help because of the guilt and shame you feel over the behaviors you practice, please don't let that stop you. Your not asking for His help is not going to stop Him from knowing about your behaviors. And remember that He is on your side. He wants you to be closer to Him, and He also wants to help set you free of your eating disorder.
Do You Have a Good Conscience?
1 Timothy 1:18-20 NRSV
I am giving you these instructions, Timothy, my child, in accordance with the prophecies made earlier about you, so that by following them you may fight the good fight, having faith and a good conscience. By rejecting conscience, certain persons have suffered shipwreck in the faith; among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have turned over to Satan, so that they may learn not to blaspheme.
When We Willfully Sin
Hebrews 10:26-27 NKJV
For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries.
Matthew Henry writes:
Unanswered Prayer?

"But we prayed to our God--AND posted a guard day and night to meet this threat!" Nehemiah 4:9
Nothing less than the LIVING Christ
He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures. 1 Corinthians 15:4
If your faith stops at the cross--it misses the blessing of the fullest revealing of Christ!
You need a Savior who not merely two thousand years ago went to death to redeem you--but one who also is alive to walk by your side in loving companionship.
You need a Savior who can hear your prayers, to whose feet you can creep in penitence when you have sinned, to whom you can call for help when the battle is going against you.
You need a Savior who is interested in all the affairs of your common life, and who can assist you in every time of need.
Are You A Slave To Sexual Sins?
Are you having less sex with your spouse or stopped having sex with your spouse because you are looking at pornography? Are unhealthy emotions overtaking your thoughts and controlling the outcome of your actions? Have you tried to quit looking at porn but can't?
If you answered yes to any one of these then you are addicted. Anytime we are addicted to something it means we are under its control and have become a slave to it. Does being addicted to porn mean you are a bad person? Not necessarily.
Faith as an Overcomer
For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 1 John 5:4
One of the fruits of the new birth, is a faith which not only enables its possessor to overcome the sensual and sinful customs, and the carnal maxims and policies by which the profane world is regulated--but also the lying delusions and errors by which the professing world is fatally deceived.
The only thing which will or can "overcome the world" is a God-given--but self-exercised faith.
Do You Have Control?
Matthew 26:39 NKJV
He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, "O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will."
It struck me, the other day, that the ultimate sin -- the foundational mindset that causes us to sin -- is a matter of control. We sin because we want to control... to control our circumstances, to control those around us, to control our future. We win because we want some thing rather than being willing to let God and trust God to give us what He wants.
