Steps to Peace with God

Step One
God’s Purpose: Peace and Life

Step 1

God loves you and wants you to experience peace and life–abundant and
eternal.

The Bible says…

“We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:1

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that
whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16

“I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more
abundantly.” John 10:10

Why don’t most people have this peace and abundant life that God planned
for us to have?

The Problem: Our Separation

Step 6 Notes

These are notes on Step 6 from various sources:

We have emphasized willingness as being indispensable. Are we now ready to let God remove from us all the things which we have admitted are objectionable? Can He now take them all, everyone? If we still cling to something we will not let go, we ask God to help us be willing. -A.A. Big Book p.76

Step 5 Notes

These are quotes on Step 5 from various sources:

All of A.A.’s Twelve Steps ask us to go contrary to our natural desires … they all deflate our egos. When it comes to ego deflation, few Steps are harder to take than Five. But scarcely any Step is more necessary to longtime sobriety and peace of mind than this one. – Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p. 55

Step 4 Notes

These are quotes on Step 4 from various sources:

A business which takes no regular inventory usually goes broke. Taking commercial inventory is a fact-finding and a fact-facing process. It is an effort to discover the truth about the stock-in-trade. One object is to disclose damaged or unsalable goods, to get rid of them promptly and without regret. If the owner of the business is to be successful, he cannot fool himself about values.

We did exactly the same thing with our lives. We took stock honestly. First, we searched out the flaws in our make-up which caused our failure. Being convinced that self, manifested in various ways, was what had defeated us, we considered its common manifestations. -A.A. Big Book p.64

Step 3 Notes

These are notes on Step 3 from various sources:

We were now at Step Three. Many of us said to our Maker, as we understood Him: “God, I offer myself to Thee-to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will. Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life. May I do Thy will always!” We thought well before taking this step making sure we were ready; that we could at last abandon ourselves utterly to Him – A.A. Big Book p.63

Step 1 Notes

These are quotes on Step 1 fraom various sources

The fact is that most alcoholics, for reasons yet obscure, have lost the power of choice in drink. Our so-called willpower becomes practically non-existent. We are unable, at certain times, to bring into our consciousness with sufficient force the memory of the suffering and humiliation of even a week or a month ago. We are without defense against the first drink.
– A.A. Big Book, p. 24 (Substitute your own addiction for drink if your addiction is different than alcohol)
