THE Municipal Trial Court in Cities-Office of the Clerk of Court Branch 7 recorded the number of pending cases on anti-smoking ordinance is higher than the number of complaints received by the court in August. Court presiding Judge Rufino Ferraris Jr. said the office has 149 archived cases for the anti-smoking ordinance due to fake name and/or incomplete name, and incomplete address of the accused, which also causes delay on proceedings.

State Fire Marshal Kevin Sehlmeyer says having working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, along with knowing and practicing an escape plan are the most important factors in keeping college students safe.

A fire chief has issued a warning to smokers after a discarded cigarette caused a pile of rubbish to go up in flames. Essex County Fire and Rescue Service was called to the blaze involving a heap of commercial waste, including cardboard boxes, at the rear of a shop in Short Wyre Street, Colchester, just before 9.40am today.

LGUs told: No smoking in schools, hospitals

LOCAL government units were told to make sure that designated smoking areas are not to be established in places such as schools, hospitals and recreational facilities for minors. The Department of Interior and Local Government reminded the LGUs to strictly implement the standards and specifications for the efficient implementation of Executive Order 26. In a memorandum, the DILG said that smoking areas are not allowed to have an opening that might allow air or cigarette smoke to leak into the smoke-free areas of the building.

Letter: No vehicle ashtrays causing problems for smokers

One of the problems these days - you could say it's an excuse if you want - vehicles are no longer fitted with ashtrays. I'm sure pretty much everybody smoked in decades gone by, and when you purchased a car you got the central ashtray, some had ashtrays on the driver's side door, and there was another for the backseat passengers.
