McMaster University to ban smoking on campus on Jan. 1

Starting Jan. 1, the use of tobacco and all oral smoking devices will be banned from the Hamilton campus and at the Ron Joyce Centre in Burlington. President Patrick Deane addressed the incoming policy in a video on McMaster's website, saying the move was "obviously desirable and logical."

Vaping doubles risk of smoking cigarettes for teens

The study -- from the University of Waterloo and the Wake Forest School of Medicine -- found that students in grades seven to 12 who had tried an e-cigarette are 2.16 times more likely to be susceptible to cigarette smoking. "Since e-cigarettes came on the market there has been a debate about whether their use may lead to cigarette smoking," said Bruce Baskerville, co-author on the study and a researcher at the Propel Centre for Population Health Impact at the University of Waterloo.

IDF Announces New Operation: A War On Smoking

The military announced Sunday that on November 1 that it will stop selling cigarettes on 65 bases across the country and that it will prohibit smoking in public areas of the bases and will provide limited smoking areas. The IDF's Kiriya headquarters in Tel Aviv are among those where smoking will be strictly prohibited, according to the IDF.

Confusion, anger over University of Queensland going smoke-free in 2018

Earlier in the week, the University of Queensland announced it hoped to become a smoke-free educator by mid-2018 and early indications suggest the majority of students support the announcement, however an outraged group of students have created an opposing campaign and begun posting contested messages online. One of the leaders of the UQ DARTS Facebook page, which advocates against the smoke-free plan, is Kurt Tucker - former president of the university's Liberal National Club.
