Magic mushrooms may one day treat depression: Study investigating active substance in the illegal drug is due to launch early next year British scientists plan to conduct a study that investigates the illegal drug's active ingredient, known as psilocybin, in patients with the mental health condition who have not previously responded to treatment. If the trial, which is due to launch next year and is the largest of its kind, is successful, the substance could be approved for treatment of the blues.

The cooperative has partnered with mental health organisations the Black Dog Institute and Lifeline WA to produce a video series that features farmer directors discussing how depression and suicide can affect individuals and farming communities.

30% of minors with mental health problems 'serious risk to themselves'

The provincial health department says 30% of the minors admitted under the Mental Health Care Act were regarded as a serious risk to themselves, due to either self-harm behaviours, suicide attempts or suicidal thoughts and intentions. Yesterday marked World Suicide Prevention Day under the theme "Take a minute, change a life", and the department's Mental Health Review Board, which considers and reviews all admissions of mental health care users under the Mental Health Care Act, says it has seen a spike in mental health admissions since 2015.
