Kalgoorlie-Boulder Mayor John Bowler says the council is not under pressure to have a liquor accord completed before the cashless welfare card is rolled out in 2018. But he remains hopeful of having the details of the accord settled before the end of the year to combat street drinking linked to takeaway alcohol sales.

A BOOK aimed at shedding light on the psychological and spiritual origins of substance addiction, The Spiritual Paradox of Addiction, was launched at the Mumbai Press Club on Monday. The book is by Dr Ashok Bedi, a Jungian psychoanalyst, co-authored by Father Joseph Pereira, who started the first Alcoholics Anonymous through his parish in Mumbai and also started the Kripa Foundation that aims to help alcoholics recover.

Judge tosses most serious charges in Penn State fraternity death

A Pennsylvania judge has dismissed charges of involuntary manslaughter and aggravated assault against eight fraternity members at Penn State in the hazing death of a pledge who fell down the stairs after drinking heavily. Coroner records open verdict into death of man whose body was found in the River Severn

Andrew Cooper, aged 44, of Stourport, suffered with alcohol problems over the last year after he had lost his job and suffered from financial problems, Worcestershire Coroners Court heard. His body was found in the River Severn, Holt Fleet, near Worcester, on March 17 - three months after he was reported missing from his home in Stourport.
