A 'seriously ill' Putney child's garden has been transformed by a children's charity

A 'seriously ill' child from Putney has had his garden transformed complete with a trampoline, climbing wall and play equipment by volunteers. As part of its Helping Hands project, charity WellChild recruited a group of volunteers from Oxford Economics and renovated 11-year-old Terence's garden, in Huntingfield Road, which had low fences and several other hazards.

ADHD in Some Children could be due to Insufficient Sleep

On September 20 the Washington Post reported on how ADHD in some children could be linked to insufficient sleep , far less than the 10-13 hours recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics for children 3 to 5 years old or the 9-12 hours recommended for children 6 to 12. Sandra Kooij, MD, PhD of the Vrije Universiteit Medical Centre in Amsterdam described children and adults with ADHD whose daily cycles of sleep, wakefulness, hormonal activity, temperature, and movement occurred later at night than usual. Evening darkness acts on retinal nerve cells that trigger melatonin secretion by the pineal gland in the brain , helping to synchronize the brain's biological clock with the environment .

Rugby sevens players to attend launch of children's rugby union program

Women referred to HPV center more often have suffered from psychiatric conditions, research shows

New research from Aarhus University shows that women who are referred to an HPV center more often have had psychiatric medicine prescribed or been hospitalized for psychiatric conditions up to five years before they received the vaccine. Research from Aarhus University shows that 29 per cent of the referred women over the age of 18 have been prescribed psychiatric medicine during the five-year period before the vaccination, while it is 17 per cent for HPV vaccinated women in general.
