Pre-pregnancy obesity ups autism risk in newborns

Washington D.C. [USA], Nov 25 : Women beware! Being overweight or obese before getting pregnant can increase the risk of developing autism or behavioural problems in newborns, a recent study warns. The findings suggested that autism risk increased up to 36 percent and Attention Deficit Disorder Association risk increased up to 62 percent for the babies of obese women.

The FDA has approved Mydayis to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in patients 13 years or older. The approval carries the limitation that, at the same dose, patients 12 years or younger experienced higher plasma exposure and higher rates of adverse reactions, primarily insomnia and decreased appetite, compared with patients 13 years or older.1 The extended-release capsules consist of 3 different types of medication-releasing beads.2 Mydayis is a Schedule II controlled substance.1 PHARMACOLOGY AND PHARMACOKINETICS Mydayis contains d-amphetamine and l-amphetamine salts in a 3:1 ratio.

Brightside kicks off annual Angel campaign

For more than 30 years, the Brightside Angel Campaign has been a successful fundraiser benefiting Brightside for Families and Children located at the Providence Behavioral Health Hospital in Holyoke. Founded by the Sisters of Providence in 1881 as an orphanage, Brightside is non-profit child welfare and family support organization for at-risk children, adolescents and their families.
