An Invitation to Christian Eating Disorder Recovery

Does your eating disorder seem to serve a purpose in your life? Perhaps it seems that it gives you comfort or that it even serves as a distraction from painful underlying issues. Can you imagine your life without the eating disorder? Is there something unexplainable about the eating disorder that keeps you bound to it?

I can relate. It seemed impossible that I would ever be ready to let go of the eating disorder. I was even afraid of what would take its place since I felt there would be a void in my life without it. Eventually, though, I was ready to let go of the eating disorder and allow God to show me a better life without it.

It takes time to be ready to let go of what holds you, but in Christian eating disorder recovery, you don’t have to do it alone. I didn’t. If you are God’s child, you have access to God’s power just like I did. It may help you to meditate on scriptures, such as Ephesians 6:10, that speak of this power. Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. In Ephesians 3:20, we learn that His power can bring about results even greater than we expect. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us… I’ve lived this verse. I found that recovery from the eating disorder was even greater than I could have imagined.

Having divine help through eating disorder recovery helped me grow closer to the Lord. This experience changed my view of God and helped me see His Word in a new light. I have a greater desire to apply scripture to my life. I know that I will continue to stumble and fall in my life, but I also know that He will always be there to help me get back on my feet.

There is a better life waiting for you. In Christian eating disorder recovery, you can allow God to help you let go of the eating disorder and live a richer life that God has planned for you. Paul said it best, and I leave you with his words from Romans 15:13. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
