UAlbany Study Links Smoking with Limited Nutrition Access

A new School of Public Health study has found an association between smoking and poor nutrition. The study, led by Akiko Hosler and Isaac Michaels, researchers in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at UAlbany's School of Public Health, analyzed health interview surveys and food environment assessments of just under 2,000 adults in Schenectady, N.Y. It found that individuals who ate zero or one serving of fruits and vegetables daily more than doubled their odds of smoking, compared with those who ate five or more servings per day.
