Encouragement

Prayer for the Grieving, Broken Hearts, Those in Despair

Abba, so many hearts are breaking out there. So many hearts are saddened, grieving and mourning. There are some in despair, some who have lost all hope. They are broken and they don't understand what You are doing in their lives. They need Your touch so badly. Please hold them close to You. Please hug them in such a way that they can feel it. Please comfort them and reassure them in their hour of great need.

Encouragement for Pastors & Professionals

The more I think about the human suffering in our world and my desire to offer a healing response, the more I realize how crucial it is not to allow myself to become paralyzed by feelings of impotence and guilt. More important than ever is to be very faithful to my vocation to do well the few things I am called to do and hold on to the joy and peace they bring me. I must resist the temptation to let the forces of darkness pull me into despair and make me one more of their many victims. ~ Henri J. M. Nouwen

Dealing with Disappointment in Self

Disappointment in self
Who hasn't felt it?
Chatter of internal communication
Falls silent
Image of parent past
Comes to life
Bigger than life
Immovable
...and angry.
Visceral dread
Spreads.
Tightness in throat
Shallowness of breathing
Bowing of head
Awareness narrows
Awaiting arrows
Certainly deserved...

SURPRISE!!
It's a FEELING!!

Deep breath
Expanded focus
Gaze lifts
Shoulders relax
Honest reflection sorts wheat from chaff
Chatter begins
Balance restored
Everything flows
Decisions made
Self released...

Forgiveness is such a gift.

Bible Verses for Bulimia

Even if you have bulimia, know that the Bible contains relevant verses for your recovery. Let God speak to you through His Word. He can help you address underlying issues, and a He can also provide a safe place for you to express your emotions instead of engaging in bulimic behaviors.

While bulimic behaviors may seem to provide a satisfactory distraction from feeling emotions, such relief is only temporary. But feeling the feelings is easier said than done. Sometimes it's challenging to find ways to express those emotions. Not only that, but it can also be difficult to even be comfortable with having emotions.

An Old Man

89 years old
decrepit
sores
cantankerous

looked on by society as worthless
an outcast
a burden

and yet absolutely loved by You

in Your eyes, a mere child
a soul in need of Love
just like the rest of us

Really? Wisdom For The Asking?

If we grew up in an atmosphere of instability, with much yelling and cursing, it can be so hard to trust that we can ask for our needs to be met and have that request answered without anger, let alone without mockery and humiliation coming our way.

Perseverance in Christian Eating Disorder Recovery

Does perseverance in your eating disorder recovery seem impossible? Are you often tempted to give up? Do you grow weary of the ups and downs of the recovery process?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, please know that many others have walked and do walk in your shoes. Eating disorder recovery is challenging, and it can take a toll on us. I know it did on me. I felt like I was running a race, and yet I felt so tired and like my legs were cramping up. I couldn't imagine crossing the finish line. There can be many weary moments in eating disorder recovery. However, that does not mean that it isn't possible. Perseverance really can be a reality.

When Hope is Lost

Many of us have been taught that hoping only brings about disappointment. Because of hopes dashed in the past. The promises we believed were broken. We were left feeling like fools for ever hoping in the first place. We stay in a constant state of fear of losing it all in an instant. Fear of hoping against hope. Fear of having your hopes crushed. Everything we live is a learning experience. There is no failure. There is only an attempt that didn’t turn out as expected. In living life this way, we can hope after experiencing a loss. Our focus and energy is simply redirected. With every risk we take, we are teaching ourselves. Giving ourselves the gift of learning how to try and how to fail so that we can try again with more wisdom. We are teaching myself about succeeding.

The Promises of A.A. - ALL of Them!

These are ALL of the promises as stated in the book Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book (also known as "The Big Book").

The Promises of Step Two

Page 25:

  • There is a solution.
  • We have found much of heaven and we have been rocketed into a fourth dimension of existence of which we had not even dreamed.
  • The great fact is just this, and nothing less: That we have had deep and effective spiritual experiences which have revolutionized our whole attitude toward life, toward our fellows and toward God's universe.
